كتبت المتحدثة الرسمية باسم وزارة الخارجية الروسية ماريا زاخاروفا تعليقا ساخرا على زيارة الرئيس الأمريكي لدير القديس ميخائيل ذي القبة الذهبية في كييف.

تساءلت زاخاروفا في قناتها الرسمية على تطبيق “تليغرام”: “أيهما أرثوذكسي؟” في إشارة إلى الاضطهاد الذي يمارسه نظام زيلينسكي ضد الكنيسة الأوكرانية الأرثوذكسية.
وكانت زاخاروفا قد صرحت في وقت سابق بأن زيلينسكي باضطهاده الكنائس الأرثوذكسية يدفع أوكرانيا للزوال بدعم من هياكل “الناتو”، حيث أشارت إلى 4 مشاريع قوانين قيد النظر في البرلمان الأوكراني لتقييد الأنشطة ونقل الملكية وتغيير اسم الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية الأوكرانية، حيث لفتت إلى أن كل هذه “وثائق تنتهك دستور البلاد بشكل صارخ”.
ونظمت السلطات الأوكرانية في عام 2022 أكبر موجة اضطهاد ضد الكنسية الأرثوذكسية الأوكرانية في التاريخ الحديث للبلاد. اعتمادا على مزاعم حول علاقتها بروسيا قررت السلطات الأوكرانية في مناطق مختلفة من البلاد حظر أنشطة هذه الكنيسة وتم تقديم مشروع قانون حول الحظر الفعلي لهذه الكنيسة بأوكرانيا إلى البرلمان. كما تم فرض عقوبات على عدد من رجال الدين. وفيما بعد أعلن الرئيس الأوكراني فلاديمير زيلينسكي تعليق جنسية عدد من رجال الدين في الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية الأوكرانية.
